We are supporting March for Babies 2012!! For the Fourth year we are helping give back to the March of Dimes so that that all babies get a healthy start! As many of you know, our daughter, Rylee Grace was born 3 months too early (26 1/2 weeks, gestation). She weighed 1.1 pounds/11 inches and spent 3 months at the North Carolina Children's Hospital NICU.
Rylee's Time in the NICU:
During her stay Rylee received many transfusions, fluids and medicines through an umbillical line. She was fed through a feeding tube until about a week before we brought her home . Rylee was born breathing on her own which was remarkable given her size and gestation age, however it was stressful on her so she was intubated. Amazingly, she was extubated that very same day! To help with her lung development I received the standard full dosing of steriods before giving birth. After birth Rylee received Surfactant therapy which the March of Dimes developed. This therapy has decreased deaths of babies from respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) from 10,000 per year to fewer than 1,000. We are so thankful they were able to provide research and a successful therapy to help babies everywhere!
With the help of the March of Dimes and the North Carolina Children's Hospital NICU, Rylee beat the odds. We are supporting March for Babies 2012 to help give back!

March for Babies:
March for Babies is just that - for babies EVERYWHERE! We are very excited to be a part of March for Babies. The March of Dimes champions the needs of moms and babies in our community and across the nation. The money we raise for March for Babies will support lifesaving research, services, education and advocacy that help babies get a healthy start. The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.

Rylee Today:
Rylee is a typical 4 year old! She loves the outdoors and running, jumping and dancing! She performed in her first dance recital this past Holiday season and continues to perform for us nightly! Rylee and her sister, Emily play together all the time - Emily is such a good big sister and we feel that Rylee's progression is due in part to having Emily around to teach her. She wants to do EVERYTHING Emily does!!! Rylee started preschool in September 2011. She absolutely loves school! She is having lots of fun and learning so much every day! She continues with speech therapy weekly and is responding well to therapy. Even though there are two adults, two bulldogs and a big sister in this house, Rylee is the boss (all 24 pounds of her)! She does things on her own terms and in her own time - I guess this shouldn't surprise us considering how she made her entrance into this big beautiful world!!! We are so thankful that she is healthy and very happy!!!
